Band nastao 1989. u Finskoj, a osnivaci benda su Miika Tenkula, Sami Lopakka I Vesa Ranta.u to vrijeme Sentenced je predstavljao surovu europsku verziju death metala.Prvi demo je ‘When Death Joins us..’,ubrzo nakon toga snimaju album ‘Shadows of the Past’ .U slijedecem albumu ‘North From here’ prelazu na melodicni death metal.Kad je u postavu ušao Ville Laihiala,prelaz od dubokog growl na clean i prelaze na gothic Very Happy ...zadnji album koji su izdali je Funeral Album Sad
